What Is USDT?

Written by IndX Editorial · Reviewed by IndX Product · Published 2026-09-17 · Updated 2026-09-17

A plain-English explainer of Tether (USDT), how it tracks the dollar, and key risks.

USDT (Tether) is a stablecoin designed to stay close to one US dollar. It exists on several blockchains. On IndX, supported USDT networks are TRC20 and BEP20.

People use USDT to move value between wallets and platforms without the same price swings as many other digital assets. Its value can still move slightly away from $1, and it carries issuer and platform risk.

USDT is not a bank deposit and is not guaranteed by any government. Always check the network before you send, and never share recovery phrases with anyone.
